BIOLOGIC INJECTIONS

Knee Biologic Injections

Biologic Injections (PRP, BMAC, and/or HA)

A Biologic Injection is a same-day, in-office procedure. Biologic Injections are available for any joint, for patients over age 60 and for patients who do not meet the BMI requirement for BAM surgery.

These biologics have been shown in the literature to protect existing cartilage, reduce pain and inflammation, and slow further cartilage degeneration.[1] [2]

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a blood product that contains concentrated growth factors. These growth factors provide an optimal environment in the joint for cartilage repair to occur. PRP augments the 3 phases of tissue healing: inflammation, cell proliferation and remodeling.

PRP has been shown to offer a clinical improvement in mild cases of osteoarthritis for 6 months to 1 year. Check out this study.

Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) - In addition to growth factors, which have natural inflammatory properties, BMAC also includes stem cells, the actual workers needed to perform the cartilage repair.

BMAC has been used to treat focal cartilage damage and OA with good to excellent results.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA)

Hyaluronic Acid (HA)

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a building block of normal hyaline cartilage and is routinely injected into OA knees.
